Israel is a unifying force in our community but also a big bone of contention. How our community talks about Israel – amongst ourselves and to the Australian public – continues to divide opinion and stir passion. Furthermore, we seem to talk incessantly about Israel. Is our fascination with Israel justified? And are we talking about the right things?

Michael Misrachi

Michael Misrachi is the Education Director of The Shalom Institute, responsible for Limmud-Oz, the Sydney Jewish Writers' Festival and the wide array of other educational and cultural programs offered. He was active in the community as a student - in interfaith dialogue and the Hineni youth movement - and worked in corporate HR for several years before becoming a communal professional. Michael is a member of the ROI community.

Lynda Ben-Menashe BA Dip Ed M Ed was Education Manager of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies from 2007 to 2011 and since then has been its NGO Relations Manager. Lynda conceived the JBD’s flagship 'Talking About Israel' course, with almost 700 graduates. She has three children, aged 13, 15 and 18.

Philip Chester is President of the Zionist Federation of Australia (since 2006), President of the Zionist Council of Victoria, 1998-2002, and a member of the Zionist General Council, World Zionist Organisation. Philip is Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Jewish Agency for Israel. He was awarded the Centenary Medal in recognition of his service to the Jewish community
