Cyprus played a critical role in the formation of the State of Israel. During the Shoah, the British used the crown colony as a depot for survivors seeking refuge in British Palestine. When Independence was declared, tens of thousands of survivors crossed the 272 kilometres of water to contribute to the Jewish state’s formation. Sixty-five years later Cyprus and Israel are bound closer than ever, by geography, by energy politics, by mutual interest and more.
