An entertaining and informative interactive lecture, with musical demonstration, about the rich and exciting heritage of Israeli folk music. Dahlia will explore the history, development and evolution of Israeli folk song from biblical times till today. The session will include a mini-workshop in song writing and sing-along. Dahlia will surprise you with the unlikely origins of some well-known songs and entertain you with her special interpretation of Jewish liturgical song.

Dahlia Dior

Dahlia Dior was born in Jerusalem and comes from long line of Sephardic and Ashkenazi scholars and community leaders. She served in the IDF Nahal entertainment troop. Dahlia starred in Kazablan, a musical with Yehoram Gaon, and was a member of the (Naomi) Shemer Sisters popular song ensemble. Singing in over 20 languages, she has performed around the world, and has a Masters Degree in musicology (Macquarie University).

Stella Levinsky

Stella Levinsky is an accomplished pianist and music teacher who has performed extensively and taught a large numbers of students all over the world. She was trained at the State Conservatory in Almaty Kazakhstan as a concert pianist and piano teacher. Stella has been teaching music and piano in Sydney for the past 10 years and also was the pianist for the B'nai B'rith choir in their various public performances.
